DJ's tug of war team was founded in 1980 by
Dave and Jean Sticha from New Prague, MN. The team had it's
roots competing as a "pit pulling" team. This style
consisted of digging a hole and "passing " the rope
through ones hands. The team that had the most rope by the
end of a pre-arranged time would be the winner. DJ's began
pulling the "stand-up" style in 1982. This is the
same style that the team pulls today.
The first outdoor National Championships that
DJ's competed in was in 1983 for the men and women. The first
outdoor World Championships that the DJ's men competed in
was 1988 in Malmo, Sweden and 1996 in Slagharen, Holland for
the DJ's women.

the first national indoor championships that the U.S Amateur
Tug of War Association hosted. The first indoor World Championships
